2023 Wine Writing Round Up

January 11, 2024 Dana Van Nest

Exclusive content in the print editions!

It was a great year for wine tasting and writing. After several years of wine judging for Great Northwest Wine, I joined the writing staff, and my first article was published in November. Writing for GNW and for Sip kept my glass full!

Somm-Turned-Journalist Zach Geballe Lends Seattle Perspective To VinePair

Great Northwest Wine, November 2023

I interviewed podcaster and wine educator Zach Geballe for my first story. Zach was so fun to interview. He’s curious, kind, super knowledgeable, and full of thoughtful opinions.

Seattle Urban Wineries are Ready to POUR for You

Sip Magazine, November 5, 2023

It was a pleasure to talk with the newest Seattle Urban Wineries partners Jo and Mark Bader as well as the oldest, Paul Beveridge of Wilridge Winery.

Get Inspired at Surrell during Washington Wine Month

Sip Magazine, August 4, 2023

I had the pleasure of attending an incredible wine dinner at Surrell for their new “Inspiration” dinner series. JM Cellars was the featured winery. The father/son winemaking team of John and Tommy Bigelow introduced each set of wines which paired seamlessly with Chef Aaron Tekulve’s dishes.

Sip needed a shorter article than I originally wrote. If you like to read my longer piece, you can read it here.

Your Perfect In-Town Retreat: The Lodge at St. Edward Park

Sip Magazine, July 14, 2023

This isn’t an article, but rather a sponsored advertorial. Nonetheless, St. Edward Park is a cool place to visit.

My work also appeared in three print editions of Sip Magazine that are not currently available online:

Summer/Fall 2023 edition

Al Fresco Drinks Season is in Full Swing

A handful of excellent locations to imbibe outdoors in the Seattle, Portland, and Boise areas.

Spring 2023 edition

One Day in Woodinville

Here’s where to eat and drink if you just have one day in this urban wine destination.

Winter 2023 edition

Bring on the Bubbles

This piece toured the sparkling wine houses of the Pacific Northwest: Treveri Cellars, Corollary Wines, Elentone, 3100 Cellars, and Tirriddis.

The Best of the Northwest: Wine

I wrote the tasting notes for the 36 Platinum award winners.
